Indian Institute of Art & Design’s Graduate Show

Indian Institute of Art & Design (IIAD) organised ‘UNFOLD -  Graduate Show 2022’ on June 3, 2022 and June 4, 2022 at the IIAD campus, Delhi. The two day event showcased the innovative exhibitions featuring the work of our graduating batches from the four disciplines - Fashion Design (FD), Communication Design (CD), Interior Architecture & Design (IAD) and Fashion Business Management (FBM).

The first day of the Graduate show commenced with lighting the lamp by Dr. Jitin Chadha (Founder & CEO), Prof. Usha Patel (Director - Academics) accompanied by Prof. Aarti Uberoi (Course Leader - CD), Prof. Snehanshu Mukherjee (Course Leader - IAD), Dr. Sunita Gupta Kunwar (Course Leader - FBM), Prof. Kishore Chakraborty (Course Leader - Foundation), Prof. Gunjan Arora (Course Leader - MA FD) and Prof. Saumya Pande (Course Leader - BA Fashion Design). The show opened at 11:30 AM with  the presence of students, parents, industry members and  academicians.

Each department had their own chief guest to felicitate the students:

• I.M Chishti - Partner IF Studio
• Rajeev Sethi - Founder, The Asian Heritage Foundation
• Upendra Singh - Secretary, Ministry of Textiles
• Amit Agarwal - Renowned Fashion Designer  

Some of the other prominent guests were: 

• Suvir Saran - Chef, Author, Entrepreneur, Consultant
• Dadi Pudamjee - Founder, The Ishara Puppet Theatre
• M K Raina - Renowned Theatre Actor & Director
• Samar Jodha - Founder, Red Balloon 
• Ravi Dhingra - Lifestyle Photographer
• Varun Rana - Fashion Writer, Brand Consultant
• Georgina Maddox - Sr. Editor, The Hindu
• Dr. Sudha Dhingra - Professor, NIFT-Delhi
• Gaurav Jai Gupta - Designer to name a few.

The studios were transformed  into unique exhibition spaces through projection mapping, audio-visual displays, art installations, furniture display, 3D Interior walkthrough and performative installations. It reflected the hard work and creativity of the students and their faculty during the four intensive years at IIAD.

The first day started with showcasing a video message by Dr. Shashi Tharoor (Member of Parliament). In his speech he addressed students and said, ‘I am confident that as you embark on your next steps, you will soon establish your credentials of excellence and passion in whatever you choose to do next.’

First day of the Graduate Show was dedicated to CD and IAD departments where students from the CD department showcased projection mapping, branding projects, User Interface & User Experience projects along with some illustrations on various socially relevant topics. 

While the students of IAD department exhibited their interior architecture projects on transforming spaces through modular systems and better design. They showcased some of the industry linked projects based on the idea of social awareness along with their furniture designed of reclaimed wood.

The Communication Design students were awarded prizes by Amardeep Behl - Managing Director, AB Design Habit & Co. Pvt Ltd for the following:

• Professional Excellence: Nikhil Shankar
• Outstanding Academic Performance: Risaal Shaan Sabbir
• Design for Social Change: Janvi Khera, Shreya Bhardwaj 
• Best Project: Arjun Yadav

The Interior Architecture and Design students were awarded by Asha Sairam - Design Principal, Studio Lotus and Mr. I.M Chishti - Partner IF Studio for the following:

• Professional Excellence: Muskan Khan
• Academic Excellence: Anoushka Mann
• Most Innovative Project: Rahul Ajay Bhagwath
• Best Design Project: Arshia Murari

The second day of the Graduate Show was dedicated to the Fashion Design and Fashion Business Management department. A performative installation was done by the Fashion Design department - it was a live interactive display of their collection to the audience.

The day witnessed the IIAD campus bustling with design professionals across all the creative genres. The young budding designers received accolades for their hard work.

Mr. Upendra Singh (Secretary, Ministry of Textiles) and Rajeev Sethi (Founder The Asian Heritage Foundation) awarded the Fashion Design and Fashion Business Management students for their outstanding performance.

• Academic excellence: Prerna Dudi (FD)
• Academic excellence : Murchana Raginee(FD)
• Special recommendation: Anusha Kotheri Kunnummal, Arusha Jalote and Ruchika Sharma(FD)                                                        

• Outstanding Academic Performance: Jessica Toppo (FBM)
• Best Executed Project: Richa Thapliyal (FBM)

Addressing the occasion Mr. Rajiv Sethi, India’s first scenographer and Padma Bhushan award winner said “It is necessary for all the students to stay vulnerable and tempted to do more with less and keep learning in life”. He also added, “Imitation is mediocrity and we all should create our own unique identity”. The speech filled the students with excitement, joy and pride.

The Graduate Show celebrated the hard work, perseverance, and talent of IIAD's budding designers. It definitely reflected the Institute’s ideology of design thinking, dynamism and art aesthetics. As the graduating students embark on their new journey, the entire IIAD family wishes them good luck, heart-warming love, immense prosperity and success.
