Indian Institute of Art & Design Orientation Day 2023

The Indian Institute of Art & Design (IIAD) welcomed its new foundation batch for 2023 at the Sri Sathya Sai International Centre, Delhi on Saturday, 22nd July 2023. The Orientation Day marked the commencement of an exciting journey for the full cohort encompassing the Undergraduate Design, Undergraduate Fashion Business Management, as well as Postgraduate Fashion Business Management (FBM) students. The event was attended by enthusiastic students and proud parents who came together to embrace the beginning of this journey.

Naghma Sahar, Senior Editorial Advisor & Anchor, NDTV India, as the chief guest, inspired students with her enthusiasm, igniting their passion for design pursuits. Distinguished dignitaries from IIAD, Dr Jitin Chadha (Founder & CEO, IIAD), Professor Usha Patel-Director (Academics, IIAD), Ajit Chadha (Chairman, IIAD), along with other course leaders, professors and lecturers welcomed the students and their families into the IIAD community.

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp symbolising the guiding light of knowledge that IIAD imparts to its students. The Chief Guest, Naghma Sahar initiated the lighting ceremony, followed by Mr. Ajit Chadha, Dr. Jitin Chadha, and Prof. Usha Patel.

Dr. Jitin Chadha's heartfelt welcome address set the tone for the day, highlighting the institute's commitment to nurturing creative minds and providing an unparalleled learning experience. During his speech to the students and parents, he emphasized “the importance of being proactive and taking charge of one's education. He advised them to actively participate and become engaged agents in their own learning, while assuring them that they would be provided with all the means they would require, to pursue their dreams.”

Chief guest, Naghma Sahar, extended a warm welcome to the students, acknowledging the hall as a symbol of hope and filled with the brilliance of fresh minds. In her address, she remarked, “Witnessing the potential of these young brains is truly inspiring. As they embark on their design careers, this moment is perfect, with numerous opportunities in the field of design abounding beyond conventional career paths."

As the event continued Prof. Usha Nehru Patel shared her profound insights, encouraging students to embrace creativity as a catalyst for transformative ideas. While addressing the students, she emphasized “the technological advancements surrounding us in recent times, such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Furthermore, she spoke about the concept of the Metaverse—a realm where the virtual and real collide, along with many other challenging trends demanding our attention.”

This was followed by an engaging presentation by Ms. Simrat Joshi, (Chief Operating Officer, IIAD) providing a glimpse into the institute's cutting-edge facilities and state-of-the-art resources.

Mr. Sundeep Ramudamu (Associate Professor and Course Leader - Fashion Communication, IIAD) extended his vote of thanks to all attendees for making the Orientation Day a memorable one.

The day concluded on a delightful note with high-tea where students, parents, faculty and dignitaries mingled fostering a sense of fellowship within the IIAD family.

IIAD's Orientation Day 2023 has ignited a spark of creativity, passion and determination among its fresh batch of students, setting the stage for an incredible academic adventure ahead. The institute continues to inspire the creative leaders of tomorrow and create an indelible mark in the world of design business.
