The Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) kicked off the academic year with boundless enthusiasm, welcoming a vibrant batch of new design students. Spread across five dynamic days, this event was designed to help fresh-faced students open up, forge connections with peers and faculty, and become well-acquainted with the campus.
Fresh from school, the journey of budding designers commenced with a series of captivating ice-breaker activities, setting the stage for a transformative experience ahead.
As the week progressed, so did the creative energy. Day 2 was all about moulding creativity into tangible forms. Mandala Art invited students to explore symmetry, balance, and intricate patterns. The Clay Modelling and Clay Pottery sessions allowed them to get their hands dirty, quite literally, as they shaped their artistic visions from clay.
Day 3 ushered in the world of artistic expression. Face to Face, a session focused on portraiture, encouraged students to capture the nuances of human emotion on canvas. Scroll Painting transported them into a world of storytelling through visuals, and Puppet Making allowed them to breathe life into inanimate objects, giving them character and soul.
On Day 4, the campus was buzzing with the "Know Your Peers" activity, a crucial event that laid the foundation for lasting friendships. It was a chance for new students to delve into the interests and passions of their fellow peers, setting the stage for a tight-knit community that would grow and flourish over the next four years.
Dr. Jitin Chadha, the Founder Director of IIAD, shared his joy in observing the new batch's delightful ice-breaking experience during the Orientation Week. He remarked, "This week is not just about introductions; it's about fostering a sense of belonging, a sense of unity, and a shared passion for creativity. The friendships formed here will be the threads that weave the beautiful tapestry of their design journey."
The Orientation Week at IIAD in 2023 was a colourful canvas of beginnings. It wasn't just about discovering classrooms and campus corners; it was about discovering oneself and the boundless possibilities of artistic expression.
