Indian Institute of Art and Design organised a week-long orientation event for the new batches. The main purpose of the orientation session is to bridge the gap between the faculty and the students. The week-long programme includes introductory sessions, giving students an overview of college life and allowing them to get settled in their new environment.
The Director-Academics, Professor, Usha Patel with the Course Leader - Foundation, Kishore Chakraborty addressed the entire cohort and explained the importance of design education in today's fast-paced society. Students learn to work in groups, take feedback from their mentors and peers and begin the process of design thinking.
During the event, the institute ran a series of workshops. Following this, each student was asked to stamp their handprint on fabric as part of a traditional handprint art form. Students in groups undertook workshops on T-shirt printing, where students were guided through the creation of a t-shirt and the study of printing techniques. In monoprint, students learnt hand-wiping, rolling tactics and overprinting in multiple colours and plates, whereas in Sarkhanda Structure, participants cut and tied reed grass in a crisscross pattern to create functional structures. The macramé workshop taught students the basics of advanced knotting techniques.
