Winter is not far, and it will not be long before winter clothes like overcoats, scarves and jackets become the order of the day. Winter is the best season for going with the fashion trends due to layering, which gives additional room for styling and boots, which are available to complement every winter outfit. Not to forget the stylish scarves which give you a chic look and coats which lend an opulent edge to your look!
Over the past few years, the fashion landscape has transformed dramatically, and the focus has now shifted to classy and sustainable fashion. This trend is expected to percolate into these winters as well. While investing in coats and headwear among indispensable winter clothes makes sense, you can always expand your winter fashion checklist. From layering cut-out tops to cowgirl hats and knit matching sets, this fashion has something in store for everyone.
Sustainable Fashion: The pandemic has redefined the focus on sustainability. Fast fashion has become a passe, and recycled clothes and apparel made from eco-friendly materials such as hemp, recycled polyester, faux fur, organic cotton, etc., are likely to dominate this winter. The focus will be on smart purchasing decisions and investing in apparel of superior quality that will last long and won't wither away by the end of the season. Fashion enthusiasts are likely to prefer brands that embody sustainability as their core philosophy. The inaugural edition of the Sustainable Fashion Week is set to be unveiled on September 1 in Bristol, the UK witnessing the convergence of four themes-regenerate, rewear, repurpose and reconnect.
Colour Blocking: Colour blocking is expected to be the best fashion trend for winter. Whether on fashion runways, Instagram or TikTok, bold colour combinations, striking statement pieces and unique colour pairings have grabbed the attention of fashion enthusiasts. For instance, while dresses in bright shades and geometric patterns dominated this summer, it is time to embrace winters with colourful belts, stylish trousers with bright sweaters and blazers contrasting with the colour of the outfit.
Black Cut-out Tops: Associated with nightclubs, cut-outs have been revisited from the lens of high fashion. Luxury fashion brands such as Chloe, Prada and Fendi have designed their own version of cut-out tops giving us a range of options to choose from. The purpose of the cut-out is to accentuate the best feature of your body.
Black cut-out tops are an excellent addition to any wardrobe, especially for those looking for winter outfit ideas. It is the most versatile piece, which can be paired with a business suit or with a strappy and abstract shirt. It also provides great layering to keep yourself during the cold wave- whether for night parties or day events. Often referred to as “above the keyboard dressing,” they are also excellent for nailing virtual work meetings.
Corset Belts: Although corset belts have been around for a while, they are set to rule among the latest fashion trends for winter. These corset belts not only accentuate your waistline but also add flair to your outfit. They can be paired with several outfit-knits, crop tops, dresses, and much more. Moreover, they are available in myriad designs and styles, which make them a popular fashion statement.
Cowgirl Hats: Tracing its origin to Western America, cowgirl hats help cattle ranchers brave the hot weather sun. Over the years, they have caught the attention of luxury fashion brands such as Gucci and found their way into everyday styling. Their popularity skyrocketed after the premiere of Yellowstone Fever, a popular TV series with approximately 14.7 million viewers during its second edition. Cowgirl hats are foreseen to become a rage these winters as they lend a slightly masculine edge, making your look perfect for an Instagram grid.
Cowgirl hats are an excellent option for colour blocking or accentuating your look in a simple outfit. They can be paired with tailored shorts, leather jackets and oversized blazers. Consider adding a hatband or a custom pin to your cowboy hat to step up your style. Crystal fringe cowboy hats are ruling the festive season, especially when teamed with crochet dresses and boots.
Fringe Details: Fringe details will be integral to winter fashion this year. They are a great way to accentuate your winter outfits. Brands such as Proenza Schouler, Jonathan Simkhai, and Chloé have increased their popularity. Instead of full-fringe dresses, consider opting for a touch of fringe along the hemline, which can be paired with flat sandals to complete the look. Moreover, tasselled trims on tops or loose jeans and extended frayed edges on dresses are great winter outfit ideas for 2022. Sweaters with frill skirts and boots are also foreseen to be among the latest fashion trends for winter. Fringed accessories are also expected to complement winter outfits in 2022.
Preppy pleats: Skirts with preppy pleats are expected to be among the top winter fashion trends this year. Preppy pleats are highly flexible for styling as they can be paired with a tailored blazer, pullovers and collared shirts. This fashion trend shot to fame when Korean pop group Aespa donned it during Good Morning America, Summer Concert Series and Megan Thee Stallion embraced it as part of Sailor Moon-inspired style at Summer Sonic Festival in Japan. Preppy pleats dominated the fashion runways, with brands such as Prada, Wales Bonner, Miu Miu and Thom Browne taking the lead.
Leather pants: Leather pants became popular in the 19th century and are expected to be among the latest fashion trends for winter. Technological innovation has provided a fillip to this trend due to the use of faux leather, which is a sustainable and affordable option. They are the best for complementing with a blazer or a knit white sweater. Celebrities such as Nadia Bartel and Khloe Kardashian have further popularised this trend, with the latter including them in her Good American Clothing Line. Wide-legged pants in coloured leather paired with a fitted cardigan or cropped knit top are a must-try for fashionistas.
Pink Coats: Pink-coloured winter outfits accentuate your feminine side. Pink is the reigning colour for Valentino, Barbie x Balmain this fashion season. Pink is expected to be the top hue for not only padded puffers and bomber jackets but also faux fur coats and woollen blazers. Pink coats paired with a classic white tee, miniskirt and boots are expected to dominate the fashion scene this winter. Credit goes to St Vincent, who stole the limelight in her Gucci metallic-pink attire at the Grammys.
Sweater Dresses: Sweater dresses are expected to be among the dominant winter fashion trends. Sweater dresses can be paired in myriad ways, such as a belt or a pair of boots. While muted sweater dresses are great options at work, bodycon midi sweater dresses are perfect for a party look. Sweater dresses in bold colours and graphic prints are among the best fashion trends for this winter. Space-dye maxis at Chloe, ruffled minis at Paco Rabanne and textured designs paired with matching cardigans at Chanel have already shot to fame on the fall fashion runways this year.
Custom-made fashion: Originally restricted to business suits, custom-made fashion has made inroads into tees, bags, dresses and shoes as well. Not only do they offer a fantastic fit depending upon your body type, but they are also tailored to your unique taste to maximise your satisfaction. Making the headlines with Deepika Padukone’s custom-made Louis Vuitton red gown at the 75th Cannes Festival, this trend owes its popularity to renowned designers like Savannah Yarborough, Patrick Henry and Tony Parrott. In India, Raymond has always been the preferred brand for dapper suits but Creyate and SS Homme are new additions to this list. While chilly breezes and low temperatures may be a deterrent to help you experiment with style in winter, it is an exciting option to follow the latest fashion trends and update your wardrobe accordingly. As fashion designer Kenzo Takata said, "Fashion is like eating; You shouldn't stick to the same menu." Irrespective of the ruling trends, sweaters, cosy pyjamas, a pair of boots and a stylish dress overcoat are staples for the winter season wardrobe. From Y2K-inspired miniskirts and cut-out tops to stylish flight jackets and colour-coordinated knit sets, the upcoming winter promises to be an extravaganza for fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
